One of the mostly read daily newspapers in Sweden “Svenska Dagbladet” published the article under the title “Wonderful Vilnius” by Marcus Haraldson.
Infatuated author regrets that Swedish people have not yet discovered Vilnius. According to M. Haraldsson, Sweden opened its embassy right after independence restoration in 1991. Now, it is time for Swedish tourists to step on tracks of diplomats.
The architecture, atmosphere and attraction of Vilnius are compared with Italy and other southern Europe cities in the publication. A lot of useful information about sightseeing places is given in the article. Special attention is paid to St. Ann’s Church, the Belfry of Cathedral and impressive Užupis. Vilnius is also presented as European Capital of Culture 2009.
The Swedish reporter compliments Lithuanian cuisine and tells about restaurants in Vilnius. The information about how to get to Vilnius from Sweden is provided as well as some suggestions on some places that are a must to visit while in Lithuania. A useful source of information in Swedish is www.litauen.se designed by Lithuanian State Department of Tourism at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania.
After the publication the interest of Swedish people in Lithuania has significantly increased. More and more letters and emails as well as phone calls are received in TIC of Scandinavia. The center intends to organize advertising campaign in Swedish mass media.
According to the data from the Department of Statistics in 2006 and 2007 the same number of Swedish tourists (total 23 000) was accommodated in Lithuania. Next year, Lithuania expects to welcome even more tourists from Sweden.
