flyLAL adds Tbilisi and Milan, drops Tallinn; airBaltic stays steady

The Lithuanian airline flyLAL announced its changes for the new season a month ago, deciding to launch flights to Tbilisi and Milan, but cancelling flights to Tallinn. Meanwhile, Latvian carrier airBaltic is not changing its plans for the winter from Vilnius. It plans to operate flights to 12 destinations from the Lithuanian capital and 49 destinations from Riga.

The sag in the aviation market and the sky-high fuel prices this year have raised clouds of worry in the sky above the Baltic region’s aviation enterprises.
This coming weekend Estonian Air, airBaltic and flyLAL will transfer to the less frequent winter flight schedules.
Estonian Air is cancelling flights to Paris, Rome, Hamburg, Stockholm and Barcelona during the winter season. However, press spokesperson Ilona Eskelinen says that the national aviation enterprises have enough room for operations on small markets as well.
“Companies base their business most of all on the needs of the local market and determine the number of direct flights to where the demand is greatest.”
