The programme of the first International Vilnius Opera Festival will include recognised opera classics and authentic baroque opera performances, experimental theatre and new Lithuanian opera.
One of the accents of this festival will be A. Ponchielli’s opera “I Lituani”, produced specially for this festival by one of the most famous Lithuanian directors Jonas Jurašas. The opera will be performed in Trakai Castle. The venue and the opera were selected on purpose, specially for celebration of the Millennium of Lithuania in 2009, as the opera depicts one of the most significant periods in the history of Lithuania, and the venue, Trakai Castle, is one of the most important historic monuments. We hope that the opera will attract a crowd of spectators and will be accepted favourably.
