Leonard Bernstein. Mass

The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius are giving an unusual concert for the closing of the 20th jubilee season. Together with the best Lithuanian singers and choirs the orchestra will give a premiere of an impressive composition, Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. This monumental composition commissioned by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was first performed at the opening of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington. Noted for its different treatment of the Mass genre and its pronounced theatricality, it takes a huge team of performers. The performance at the Congress Palace promises to be an extraordinary event.

Homing pigeons and line dancers set tone for the season

Balandžiai kilo į dangų.

Officially kicking off its summer season at the weekend, Palanga was due to surprise its guests and residents by organizing one of Lithuania’s biggest folk arts and crafts fairs and also by attempting two new national records.Twenty owners of homing pigeons were due to release a thousand birds from the pier, while the biggest-ever number of line dancers were scheduled to perform at the Lithuanian coastal resort. Around 1,200 dancers from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Norway congregated for 10 dances in a 400m section of the pedestrian-only centre of the resort, J Basanaviciaus Street.

The aim of these records – to commemorate Lithuanian Millennium!
