Due to increased VAT, and other government’s solutions, which frustrate tourism, Lithuania hotels, restaurants and tourism agencies have a thin time of it, more than 10 000 employees has already lost the work. To protest against this situation, hotels and restaurants held a warning campaign “Lithuania is closed”.
In the consideration of LR Economic Committee of the Seimas was stated that in 2009 guest accommodation in the area decreased by 21.9% compared to 2008. It was also stated that not enough attention was payed to the possibilities of Internet access for atrracting tourists. The sponsorship of TIC in foreign countries was not evaluated too.
Chairman of the Seimas has promised as soon as possible to deal with the problems raised by the Association Coalition:
- The increased VAT
- The accessibility of Lithuania and strategy of tourism
- Realty tax
- Employee meals
Lithuania is not closed and invites all to come who want to learn about Lithuanian history, feel live culture or just to have a rest in the beautiful green land!
