National Museum the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania opens its gates to the public for 3 weeks

The opening of the reconstructed but not completed Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania will take place on 6 July 2009. President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, other state leaders and official guests from foreign countries are planning to participate in the great event of the Millennium of Lithuania.
Reconstructed but not completed Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania will open its gates to the public on 7 July 2009, 11 a.m. Visitors will get acquainted with authentic remains of the historical residence, reconstruction project of the Palace, interior of representative halls and its impressive elements – portals, stoves, floors, ceilings, fireplaces, and the grand courtyard of the Palace. At the same time the small didactic exposition of historic development of the Palace and some models of Vilnius castles will be presented.
On 7–26 July 2009, daily from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. excursions will be held free of charge at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania for large groups (up to 25 people) in Lithuanian, English, German, Polish, Russian and other languages. It is necessary to pre-book an excursion time.
Address: Katedros sq. 3, Vilnius, entrance from the Cathedral Square through the south gate close to the monument of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas.
We are looking forward to meeting you at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and welcome to the reconstructed historical residence of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania – a symbol of statehood which is becoming our country’s center of culture, history, education, tourism, and representation. After 26 July the mounting works of the Palace will extend and excursions will not be organized.
The exhibitions of the Millenium program of Lithuania
Three international exhibitions Wawel in Vilnius. From the Jagiellons to the End of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Lithuania in Ancient Historical Sources and The Art of Balts, dedicated to commemorate the Millenary Anniversary of Lithuania, which were planned to be exhibited at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania will be opened at the Museum of Applied Art. The museum is located in the Old Arsenal of Vilnius Lower Castle and is a part of the residence ensemble of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
The exhibitions will be opened and presented to the official guests on 5th and 6th July 2009. These and previous exhibitions of the artifacts and acquisitions and donations to the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania will be opened to the public on 7th July 2009.

· Tuesday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
· Sunday and before National Holidays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Museum is closed on Mondays and during National holidays.
