The 17th Blues Nights Festival has come to an end but the participants and other blues lovers dream and make plans for next years festival already.
Those three days of musical caravan on the shores of Lake Lukstas have brought 16 groups from Lithuania, wider Europe as well as from USA. Blues Nights 2009 has paid a tribute to Louisiana, New Orleans musical style of Zydeco and its famous representative Dwayne Rubin with its group „Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers“. As expected, it has come to be a real energizer to entertain the public until the early morning. L. R. Phoenix and Mo’hell (Mississippi, USA) also held their ground on Saturday evening together with „The Road Band“ (Lithuania), „Rebel & BBB“ (Latvia), charismatic Norwegian singer Tina Lee and well known British band „The Cadillac Kings“.
Sundays musical menu has offered the stage to be occupied by Lithuanian blues stars such as A. Bielkin (famous mouthorgan player), a one and a half years having blues group “Amarai” as well as such grandees as “Kontrabanda”, “Blues Makers” and “Arina and Veto Bank”.
According to the Festival organizers, all the cooperation with the musicians is based on reciprocal understanding and solidarity and therefore, the musicians from foreign countries come willingly and play on one stage.
On the second day the participants of the Festival have been caught for several times by a summerlike short but heavy rain. The summerhouse on the coast of the Lake Lukstas was then full of “blues” people that started to sing a famous Blues Nights anthem. The whole area sounded with strong participants voices. Despite some rain drops the participants of the Festival could entertain themselves while swimming in a lake, playing basketball, competing in volleyball and football matches, making bubbles with soap-water and experiencing other summer sweets.
No doubt, the Blues Nights festival 2009 has surpassed all expectations of Festival visitors. Everyone, who did not forget their tent and port-money must have been happy!

Yesterday in the Presidential Palace came a new president - the first woman leader of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite has taken over the wheels of state from Valdas Adamkus.
2009, July 12 th - historical day for Lithuania - Lithuania’s new President Dalia Grybauskaite attended her inauguration ceremony in Vilnius. Dalia Grybauskaite now will be called the first female president.
Lithuania’s European commissioner Dalia Grybauskaitė, who had temporarily interrupted functions in Brussels, has been elected president of her country.
Grybauskaitė run as an independent and collected 68.17% of the votes in an election with a participation of 51% of the electorate. Candidate Algirdas Butkevicius, a social democratic parliamentarian, only got 12% of the votes.
At the inauguration ceremony Grybauskaite confessed that her life motto is to learn every day.
The new President encouraged to criticize herself and all the power. But here, the President warned: from the criticism to the state destruction can be only one step.
Grybauskaite said: „Lithuania is adversarial. I invite to conciliate!“
