About “Golden Mask
Golden Mask is a National Theatre Award which was founded in 1994 by the Theatre Union of Russia and is given to productions in all genres of theatre art: drama, opera, ballet, operetta and musical, and puppet theatre. The Golden Mask is also an All-Russian Theatre Festival that, in the spring of each year, presents to the capital the most significant performances from all over Russia. The participants are selected by the Boards of Experts that include reputed theatre critics. The Jury of the Golden Mask Festival is composed of well-known actors, directors, conductors, choreographers, and theatre artists. The culmination of the Golden Mask is the Award Ceremony, which takes place on one of Moscow’s most famous stages and is broadcast by the national television channel. The authority of the Golden Mask Award and its special role are recognized by professionals, the public, and the mass media alike.

The main activity of the Golden Mask Festival is to organise the annual Festival and Award Ceremony. At the same time, the Golden Mask organises a number of important theatre events, including the Russian Case – a showcase of Russian theatre addressed to foreign visitors of the Golden Mask Festival; the PRO-TEATR Performing Arts Market, an exhibition of theatres from many Russian cities as well as from abroad; the presentation of the best Russian theatres in various cities of Russia and internationally.

Since 2005 the Golden Mask has developed its activity in the field of international cultural cooperation. The first project outside Russia was a festival in Estonia – The Best Russian Productions in Estonia - in October 2005.

In November 2006 the Golden Mask, together with its Baltic partners, initiated and implemented two international projects and presented The best of Russian theatre in Estonia and Latvia.

In a year 2009 “Golden mask” is celebrating it’s 15’th anniversary and is for the first time visiting Lithuania.
