On October 7-9, within the framework of the European Tourism Forum in Brussels, Nemunas Delta Regional Park, located in Silute district, has received the title of honour as a winner of the EDEN project or the best European tourist destination in Lithuania.
The project is prepared and submitted by Silute Tourist Information Centre together with its partners – Silute district municipality and office of the Nemunas Delta Regional Park.
Nemunas Delta Regional Park includes the Neman Delta and its branches Skirvyte and Amata, as well as Rusne Island and small rivers, meadows and canals. The Neman River is a route of many migratory fish, while the Delta hosts many birds.
The Neman Delta is popular cultural and architectural monument. This region has ancient fishermen traditions. Various entertainment and recreational opportunities are available in the park.
EDEN is a project that promotes sustainable tourism development throughout the European Union. It is focusing on tourism destination values, diversity and common features, thereby providing an opportunity to show the richness of diversity – natural resources, historical heritage, traditional festivals and local cuisine.
The EDEN project is being implemented in Lithuania for the second time. Silute Tourist Information Centre this year received the title of honour as the winner of the EDEN project.
Twenty-two European countries have been receiving awards at the event. Each of the countries was presenting its own tourist destination in the specially prepared exhibition. Lithuaninan stand attracted the attention of visitors with its gorgeous presentation of nature.
