3,000 m2 bunker 5 meters bellow ground in the outskirts of Vilnius. The Bunker: a night of survival where USSR revives…Would you like not only to see, but experience firsthand what the life was like back then? Will you dare to spend a night in a prisoners’ bed with 30 other “Soviet prisoners” in the same room?
In an enclosed 3 hectare territory in a forest near Vilnius, there is a 3,000m2 secret two-level underground labyrinth built in the 80’s at the time of the Cold War as an alternative TV station to be used in case of nuclear war between USSR and USA. There was no war in the end, and in 1991 the bunker was occupied by the Soviet army while Lithuania fought for its independence. Lithuania regained its independence and became a member of the EU. Since then, the project “1984. Survival drama’ has attracted thousands of visitors and foreign media. But in the night only residents of the bunker are bats.
In the evening, upon your arrival to the bunker, you will be met by Soviet guards with dogs. For 13 hours you will part with all you are in this century; all your stuff, your cameras and cell phones. Dressed in grey Soviet threadbare clothing you will be given Soviet towels, toothpowder and some soap. You will enter the life of a simple Soviet citizen full of fear and uncertainty. You will be led through a maze of reinforced concrete slabs 5 meters down under, you’ll see Soviet television broadcasts and visit shops from 1984, learn the anthem of USSR, you’ll get used to carrying around a gas mask.
After the 2 hour show, an authentic Soviet dinner awaits you, served on authentic tableware of the times with a glass or two…. At the dinner table soviet KGB officers will entertain themselves singing nostalgic Soviet songs. You might want to dance or to sing along. But after the relaxing dinner, in the night, the KGB night interrogations will start … Will you betray somebody or will you be betrayed?
The survival night in the Bunker will end in the morning: European breakfast with real coffee, cereal and a fresh croissant will mark your return to freedom.
“Night in the USSR”(Survival in the Soviet Bunker), is not for the weak, not for anyone under 18 and even not for every senior. Attendance is not recommended if you suffer from heart problems, asthma, epilepsy or claustrophobia.

Winter Vacation in Lithuania
Filed Under what the press say ... | Comment
The fact that there are no mountains in Lithuania winter holidays here seem to nave low importance. The only exception can be made for the season of Christmas holidays. In this very season tourists basically from neighboring Russia, Belarus and Poland come here to celebrate the New Year in Vilnius or Kaunas and to have fun in numerous cafes of the Old City. Moreover as a rule the tourists are offered standard excursions round the main sights of these cities in addition to shopping in the biggest supermarkets.
However Lithuania is able to offer a tourist more ways of having rest in winter rather than usual dance round the New Year tree or a shopping fever. It’s is known that more and more tourists prefer a week holiday somewhere in a quiet place near the forest to a noisy and very often tiresome tour.
Lithuania offers several variants of such vacation. Its most popular health resort of Druskininkai is attractive not only in summer but also in frosty January. The season here is not restricted to summer months, it continues all the year round. Skiing along the outskirts of the resort is also as attractive as cycling.
Another famous resort of Birshtonas has done more to attract tourist’s attention and except for some skiing tracks it has organized a real downhill track. It begins at the top of a hill which is 40 meters high and its general length is 160 meters. It’s clear that Birshtonas is not the Alps. But this track is able to diversify a quiet rhythm of this spa-resort.
A good winter tour round Lithuanian cities can become a bright event. A tourist can make it either alone or using the service of any tour agency. In any case such excursions as the one along the town Anikschai (an old railway, the Museum of horses, the downhill track on the hill of Kaletos) or another one round an old Lithuanian capital Kyarnava which is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Lithuania are really good and can suit anybody’s taste.

Travel agency “Visit Lithuania” wants to boast for take in important guests from Serbia - sponsors and the FA delegation and the Press group.
Travel agency arranged accommodation at the hotel “Daniela” , catering at the national Lithuanian restaurant “Berneliu Smukle”, sightseeing tour of Kaunas and the necessary transportation for the guests. The personnel of travel agency also jokingly says that they were responsible for the Lithuanians victory against Serbia team in the soccer stadium of Marijampole, because of booking rainy Lithuanian air - unfamiliar and unacceptable to Serbia :)!
Lithuanian national football team the selection to the 2010 world championship completed worthily. Lithuanians on the soaking wet lawn in Marijampole stadium 2:1 won the victory against Serbia football team – the winners of the seventh group, which already have had the ticket to South Africa. Lithuanian football team for the first time in the history triumphed over Serbian national team.
European basketball legend accompanied Serbia national football team in the selection of the world championship. One of the best-known basketball legend - Vlade Divac - also watched the competition in Marijampole football stadium. The new Serbian Olympic Committee president – Vlade Divac - 216 cm tall and 41-years old, long-time NBA player, after Lithuanian victory 2:1 pleasantly gave autographs to Lithuanian fans. ”
Visit Lithuania” was responsible for the Mr. Divac transfer from Vilnius to Kaunas, as you can imagine – they had to search really spacious car for this special and very tall NBA player :)!

Monday night, films from Kaunas International Film Festival have reached Vilnius audience. The recently opened “Pasaka” film theatre screens selected new films from all over the world and invites viewers to meet filmmakers.
Almost entire programme of Kaunas Film Festival will be screened in Vilnius this week. It will begin with the bold films from the Music Moves the World programme section, such as: All Tomorrow’s Parties; It Might Get Loud; Wild Combination: The Portrait of Arthur Russell; and Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love, which made the audience cry in almost full screening hall.
The capital’s cineastes will also see Broken Embraces, 33 Scenes from Life, Back Soon and other films deeply appreciated by the audience in Kaunas. Viewers in Vilnius will also enjoy an exclusive meeting with Josh and Benny Safdie, authors of Go Get Some Rosemary and independent filmmakers from New York.
The festival, which lasted for almost two weeks in Kaunas, attracted thousands of cineastes and temporarily revived the oldest film theatre in Lithuania “Romuva” bringing nostalgic memories of the ‘age of gold’ when lovers of film had to do their best to get into the crowded screening hall. This year, the festival offered films in four different programme sections including All the Muses dedicated to the world of art and creativity. 33 films from neighbouring European countries, USA, Canada and the exotic Iceland were screened in Kaunas during the festival.
French filmmaker Phillippe Lioret’s work Welcome was the favourite of the viewers in Kaunas. The event in Kaunas ended with the film Bouzkachi: The Chant of the Steppes shot in France and Uzbekistan and balancing between a fairy tale and a documentary. It was introduced by the filmmaker Jacques Debs himself and the world known Lithuanian artist Stasys Eidrigevičius who also played one of the most important roles in the film. Throughout the weekend, the guests communicated with Kaunas’ audience and on Monday they will come to meet the viewers in “Pasaka” film theatre.
Kaunas International Film Festival will continue in “Pasaka” film theatre in Vilnius until Sunday, October 18.
