Lithuanian low-cost carrier Star1 Airlines offers five routes from Vilnius during the summer season. The company introduces the destination of Edinburgh, continues direct flights to London and Milan, and restores seasonal flights to Dublin and Girona (Barcelona). The summer season ticket sales have already begun.
According to the head of the company Martynas Laivys, gaining momentum in the market and constantly increasing number of passengers who opt “Star1 Airlines” leads to the growth in the number of destinations offered by the company.
“Our constantly expanding market share and growing passenger flow enables “Star1 Airlines” to establish itself as the only Lithuanian low-cost airline and further develop routes and services. We believe that low fares of flights, combined with the high quality of service and individual attention to each client offers us a strong competitive position”, M. Laivys said.
“Star1 Airlines” will launch its flights to Edinburgh from 28 March on Thursdays and Sundays (as of May 7 - on Fridays and Sundays), to Girona – from May 23 on Thursdays and Sundays. Regular flights to Milan will continue on Mondays and Fridays. The company will fly to Dublin from 29 May on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, the British capital city of London can be reached with Star1 Airlines from 29 April six times a week – every day except Saturday, but until then – five times: on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Fares to Edinburgh including all fees start from just 99 litas, to London and Milan – from 149 litas, while airline tickets to Girona and Dublin will cost from 199 litas.
As before, the company does not charge for luggage – one suitcase not exceeding 20 kg will be carried free of charge.
“This is particularly important to our customers who travel for business or leisure purposes. Free luggage and flight check-in are some of our advantages which bring down the costs of each traveller”, says the head of Star1 Airlines.
As planned, during the summer season “Star1 Airlines” will operate its regular and charter flights with two aircrafts.

Three years ago Japanese-born German cellist Danjulo Ishizaka, the winner of prestigious international competitions in Spain, Poland, Germany and Sweden, has mesmerised Lithuanian audience, performing with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. The soloist earned international recognition in 2003, appearing with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Krzysztof Penderecki whose Cello Concerto will be performed tonight as well. Mr. Ishizaka has appeared with the world’s leading orchestras. Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung has named him a new genius. Exclusive contract with the Sony Classical attests his extraordinary success. Mr. Ishizaka performs on Lord Ayleford made by Antonio Stradivari.

Latvian national airline airBaltic will launch new flights from Vilnius to Dublin, Hamburg, Manchester, and Oslo, thus offering already 13 direct flight routes from Vilnius. airBaltic will start direct flights to Dublin on March 29, to Hamburg on March 30, and to Manchester on March 31. The airline will operate the first flight to Oslo on May 17.
Tero Taskila, Chief Commercial Officer of airBaltic: “After profitable year 2009 and with a positive outlook for 2010, airBaltic is expanding the network of direct routes from Vilnius to strengthen our position in Lithuania.”Nonstop flights from Vilnius to Hamburg will be offered by airBaltic three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight on board a Boeing 737 aircraft will take two hours and 40 minutes. One-way ticket prices will start at LTL 170 (EUR 49), including airport fees and transaction charges.
Flights to Manchester will be offered twice a week – on Wednesdays and Saturdays (Thursdays and Sundays from Manchester to Vilnius). Passengers will board a Boeing 737 aircraft for a flight that will last for three hours and 30 minutes, with one-way ticket prices starting at LTL 185 (EUR 54), including airport fees and transaction charges.
Passengers travelling to Dublin will use flights on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays (Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Dublin to Vilnius), boarding a Boeing 737 aircraft for a flight that will last for three hours and 30 minutes. One-way ticket prices will start at LTL 185 (EUR 54), including airport and transaction fees.
Direct flights to the Norwegian capital of Oslo will be offered by airBaltic four times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Boeing 737 aircraft will take two hours to get to Oslo, with one-way ticket prices starting at LTL 105 (EUR 30), including airport and transaction fees.
For 2009 airBaltic has announced 20 million EUR preliminary profit, and achieved 6% passenger growth to 2.75 million passengers. In 2010, airBaltic will open at least nine new direct routes from Riga, and has so far announced destinations such as Madrid, Belgrade, Vaasa, Umea, Beirut, and Amman. The number of direct routes from Vilnius, announced by airBaltic over the past month, already total 10 – London, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rome, Hamburg, Manchester, Dublin, and Oslo.

Representative of travel agency „Visit Lithuania“ recently came back from Nordic Travel Fair MATKA, held in Finland, Helsinki. It’s the biggest travel trade event in Northern Europe and the Baltic region.
Travel fair gathered 81 537 visitors (Of them nearly 18 000 were travel trade visitors) in January 21 - 24 2010.
Lithuanian stand received big interest from Nordic travelers. Visit Lithuania represented many new products in Lithuania, such as agriculture tour or beekeeping tour. Nowadays travelers show interest in individual tours, where they can choose hotels, rent a car and drive through Baltic States on their own. There is one special tour created by „ Visit Lithuania“ for that type of travelers.
Still very popular are weekend tours, Spa centers - especially wellness packages.

Giampaolo Bandini and Cesare Chiacchiaretta started playing as a duo in 2002, united by an objective to promulgate Argentinean music, using its instrumental symbols – a guitar and a bandoneon. Before long the ensemble gained popularity thanks to its charismatic members, their suggestiveness and also cult of Argentinean music in Western Europe. Tonight’s programme features the Argentinean tangos written by five composers and performers born in Buenos Aires: from Ángel Villoldo (at the turn of the 20th c.), one of the originators of the genre, Ástor Piazzolla, a revolutionary of the 20th c. tango and mastermind of tango nuevo , to contemporary composers whose music is greatly influenced by their predecessors and native tradition.

The name of this snake is illusion. Then his life from the cradle till the grave will not seem intolerable and senseless even in an evil hour.

La cinquième édition du festival du film français Ecrans d’hiver aura lieu en Lituanie du 22 janvier au 7 février 2010 dans les villes de Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda et Panevėžys.
Cette année, en plus de la projection de douze films récents (sortis en 2008/2009), le festival offre l’occasion de voir ou de revoir des films ayant marqué l’histoire du cinéma français.
