The most distinctive feature of Andrius Erminas is transferring the traditional Lithuanian textile patterns onto objects and materials that are unusual for textile. The black and white color contrast is characteristic to Erminas’ works. Just as the symbolic contrast of the materials: fabric and wood, or yarn and wire.
Like many traditional textile products, “Patterns” by Andrius Erminas could be used for interior decoration, as well.
Artifex initiated the project “Male Textile” this year. Even though textile is considered to be a female sphere of art, the history of professional textile of Lithuania (A. Tamošaitis, J. Balčikonis, V. Daujotas, M. Šimelis, V. Jūrevičius, F. Jakubauskas, A. Jonutis, Ž. Jonutis, R. Terleckas J. Stankevičiu, many others) as well as a wider international context testifies that it is not an occupation of women only. Therefore, the project organisers will try to present a number of male textile creators working in this field. Artists will be presented who use textile as material in the narrow and broad meaning, i.e., as information about textile as material for creation.
The first part of this project is such. The artist Andrius Erminas did not study textile but creates objects on the basis of Lithuanian traditional patters of fabrics or imitating textile techniques. The author creates imitations of traditional Lithuanian textile on industrial pallets that conform to European standards. In this way he creates a new unique (Lithuanian) product that conforms to general (European) requirements. Thus, the author raises an actual question about uniqueness and exceptionality in general processes of globalisation.

Love… Perhaps it is one of the most inspirations for composers evermore. The ensemble Vilniaus arsenalas will talk about this romantic feeling in musical sounds, at the concert on February 14th - St Valentine’s Day. The gripping programme is prepared for the listeners. The subtle sounds of Bach’s Trio will accompany to the world of popular operas dedicated to the love celebration. They are the snappy Pergolesi’s The Servant Mistress, the fairy-tale by Mozart The Magic Flute and the pert and puckish Rossini’s The Barber of Seville. The operas’ arias and duets will be performed by soloists Julija Stupnianek and Ignas Misiūra. A convivial duet of amorous cats that you’ll hear at the end of concert, will remind of the coming spring…
