The 3rd contemporary opera festival NOA (New opera action) will take place on 23rd -28th of March in Vilnius. This year, the festival has expanded and outgrown the experimental clothes, therefore the initial title “Short opera festival” become inappropriate, because this year, the major part of the program consists of the full-length works. Not only the duration of operas has increased, but also the number of them- during the six days of the festival, even nine operas will be introduced. In addition, the festival will further develop the program of educational projects. This year not only the adults will find their favourite operas in the repertoire of NOA festival, but also children; there will be enough entertainment for all the family.
The festival offers especially wide thematic variety this year: from the documentary opera based on the story of post war emigrant family to the stories of Sami shamaness, from the intrigues of western feast to the destiny of kitty being harmed by the little girl. NOA also covered a wider range of genres: near the conventional works, operas for soloists and instrumentalists, organisers of the festival invites to familiarize with the genres of animated opera.
The solo-performance-opera “Isadora” scored a great success at previous year’s festival (composer Jonas Sakalauskas, librettist Dainius Gintalas and director Agnius Jankevičius), and was awarded with Golden stage cross as the best theatre debut of 2008. This year, the same creative group has created one more solo-performance-opera “Joker”, which will be introduced as the second part of the diptych.
The organisers of the festival NOA would like to announce the good news not only for the opera lovers, but also for the professionals of this genre. On the last day of the festival, on the 28th of March, there will take place the workshop “Improvisational musical theatre” which will be guided by the teachers Jacek Ludwig Scarso and Maya Sapone from the original British company „Vocal Motions Elastic Theatre”
Expanding to the international space, “New opera action” invited not only the teachers from the Great Britain, but also the composer of Lithuanian origin Charles Halk from USA whose opera will begin the series of events in the festival.
In the shows of animated and film operas there will be an opportunity not only to listen to the musical masterpieces of American famous minimalist composer Philip Glass, but also to see the legendary film by Jean Cocteau or series of works by famous western animators.

Mados Infekcija (Fashion Infection) – is the most prominent annual fashion festival in Lithuania. It is an innovative and conceptual event of fashion and art fusion featuring 2-day free and ticketed public events where professional and upcoming designers are brought together. Such interaction inspires young, creative talents to search for new fashion forms and expressions and gives an opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas among the participants.
Mados Infekcija was stared in 1999 and is going to celebrate its 10 anniversary in 2010. Once a year (in spring) its schedule involves catwalk shows, exhibitions, seminars, show-rooms and free events for fashion devotees.
The festival is distinguished for its conceptuality. The aim of the event is not to show and create trends or to be a fashion dictator, but to help people to develop an individual style and attitude towards fashion and to apply the knowledge in everyday life. Bohemian spirit, extraordinary and unconventional fashion shows, the fuse of music, video, photography and other fields of art make the festival a unique 2-day experience of fashion which takes place in the capital of Lithuania Vilnius. Mados Infekcija breaks traditional boundaries of fashion weeks as it is available for everybody and has the purpose to spread the knowledge of fashion among people.
