The approaching summer increases passenger flows

Over 5 months of this year, Vilnius International Airport (VIA) provided services to 517 772 passengers, representing an increase of 10 % compared to the same period last year. The passenger flows in May (134 019) went up by 19 % compared to the same month last year.
Comparing the results of April and May of this year, an increase of 37 % in May is seen in passenger flows through VIA.
Over 5 months of this year, the number of flights operated by VIA went up by 23 % (10 868), whereas the volumes of cargo increased by more than a quarter to 2052 tons. In May, the number of flights and volume of cargo went up by 44 % and 42 % respectively.
“The approaching summer and the abundance of regular and charter flights attracted lots of passengers travelling through Vilnius Airport” – said Director General of VIA, Tomas Vaišvila.
According to him, based on the results of 5 months, VIA has established itself in the second place among other airports of the Baltic States, following Riga (1.621 mill. passengers). Tallinn with 495 257 passengers is in the third position.
This year, the most popular directions remain from Vilnius to Copenhagen, Riga, London, Frankfurt, Prague, Dublin, Helsinki, Warsaw, Moscow and Vienna.
Currently, there are 15 airline companies operating 25 regular flights for passengers from Vilnius.This year, VIA is planning to service about 2 mill. flyers.

New opportunity to travel by the river Nemunas

On Monday Kaunas district and municipal leaders met with a new opportunity to travel by river Nemunas. The ship “Tolstojus” sailed on the route Kaunas-Zapyškis-Kulautuva-Kaunas.
This route - a great opportunity to enjoy the surroundings of Kaunas city, touch the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania visiting Zapyškis Gothic church, to get acquainted with the green resort of interwar – Kulautuva.
In the interwar period such trips to Kulautuva were very popular. Kaunas city and district municipalities in order to promote water tourism designated 50 thousand LT for this route working. Travel backwards and forwards for the residents would cost  10 LT, for a child - 5 LT. The ship “Tolstojus” will be sailing from the port to Vytautas church.
Travelers in Kulautuva will have 2 hours free before returning back to the ship, so it is worth to exploit an opportunity to get acquainted with the town, relax in the beautiful nature. Usually travelers remain impressed by the town beauty and good energy, so want to come back again and again.
First trip has already received huge interest from people, so it is believed that the entire summer not only Kaunas residents, but also guests from other cities would like to enjoy scenic surroundings while sailing to Kulautuva city.

Huge Italian liner in Klaipeda!

On Monday Italian liner “Costa Magica”, carrying 2663 passengers, arrived at the Klaipeda cruise ship terminal.
More than half of the tourists - Germans. Holidaymakers  from France, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal also have chosen this eleven-day cruise around the Baltic Sea.
Most ship passengers went directly to the Curonian Spit, Vente cape by bus. Other tourists went to the Old town of Klaipeda to explore it by themselves.
272-meter long “Costa Magica” – city on the water. Living in it - like in a five star hotel.
There are two huge restaurants, various bars, casinos, shops, sports club, theater room, night club, disco, spa, three open and one indoor pool, library, children’s rooms, a chapel in twelve ship decks.
The eleventh day cruise’s price depends on the cabins, ranging from 1100 up to 3000 Euro. This price includes all meals and entertainment. For alcoholic drinks passenger has to pay in his own.
This year the “Costa Magica” arrived to Klaipeda for the second time. The liner will arrive to Klaipeda the last time in July.
Next year, “Costa Magica” will be replaced by the larger “Costa” line ships. More than 300 meters long liners will arrive to Klaipeda.

The travel project “Grunwald Travel Marathon”

600 years anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald – one of the most significant battles in Medieval Europe and the event of great importance to the history of Lithuania will be celebrated on June 15th, 2010. To commemorate this historical anniversary Lithuanian State Department of Tourism presents the travel project “Grunwald Travel Marathon”.
Visit 10 historical sites in Lithuania, substantiate each visit with a photograph at the indicated object, upload photographs on the website www.zalgiriomaratonas.lt and become a candidate to draw the Grand Prize – exotic tour for two persons.

Destinations of the “Grunwald Travel Marathon”:

1. Castles of Vilnius – the Heart of Lithuanian in Grunwald Times
2. Trakai Castles – Patrimony and the Most Preferred Residence of Vytautas
3. Old Trakai Castle Site – Birthplace of Vytautas, the commander of Grunwald Battle

Scottish Football fans are invited to Kaunas, Lithuania!

Although the Lithuanian Football Federation has not announced yet where will be held the first Lithuanian national team’s match of 2012 European Football Championship selection, but Kaunas Mayor Andrius Kupcinskas has invited the Scottish football fans on 3 September to come to Kaunas, where should meet the Scottish and Lithuanian national teams.
On Tuesday “Team Talk International” journalists’ group visited Kaunas city. This journalist’s group create a video reportage of the cities, where the Scottish national team competitions are held. On Tuesday, reporters visited Kaunas City Hall and filmed interviews with the mayor.
“I want to congratulate the “Tartan Army” (Scottish national team fan club), which is coming to Kaunas the third time. Our city is the sport capital of Lithuania. In Kaunas and in all Lithuania the most popular sport is basketball, but football has a long tradition in Kaunas also. Our city team many times became the champion of Lithuania, played with Scottish clubs in European tournaments. Well, I know that Scottish football fans are the best and friendliest in the world, because they have visited Kaunas twice “, - said A. Kupcinskas.
Scottish journalists did not hide that they are probably the most surprising about Lithuanian beer prices. “The beer is incredibly delicious and cheap here” - laughed S. Hall.
Scottish media reports that the Scottish football  fans could buy over three thousand tickets to the football match between Lithuania and Scotland. Kaunas S. Darius and S. Girenas stadium can seat about 8 thousand audience, so the site dailyrecord.co.uk rejoice at almost equal Scottish and Lithuanian access to  support their team.

Reval Hotels rebrand to Radisson Blu and Park Inn

Linstow, the Norwegian real estate developer for 10 Reval Hotels in the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Russia, announces management agreement with The Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide.
Following a management agreement between The Rezidor Hotel Group and Linstow AS, 8 Reval Hotels will be rebranded as either Radisson Blu and Park Inn establishments.
