The distinctive poetical-musical elixir. The basis of rock music with spontaneous Baltic line… Aiste Smilgeviciute&Skyle is presenting the Autumn Equinox Concert in St.Catherine Churh in Vilnius. Autumn and Spring Equinox Concerts are becoming a unique tradition. These concerts under the vaulting of St.Catherine Churh are notable not only for exceptional surroundings, but also for the rised spirit, delicate sound and performance of the band‘s well known songs. Also, the high quality sound and artistic lights make these concerts very special and unforgetable. Usually, the Church Concert Hall is full loudly applauding people! At the moment Aiste Smilgeviciute&Skyle is preparing a new album which will be called “BROLIAI”(the Brothers) and will be dedicated to Lithuanian freedoms fighters, Lithuanian partisans. The band will also perform songs from this new album accompanied by the man vocal group.
“Skylė” was founded in 1991. The band soon became popular on the alternative music scene. It was most welcome at student festivals. In 1996, Aistė Smilgevičiūtė – one of the most extraordinary voices in Lithuania – joined “Skylė”. In 1999, she represented Lithuania at the Eurovision song contest with a modern arrangement of an ancient folk song, “Strazdas” (”Thrush”). To this day the band has recorded 13 studio albums and several musicals among them. The most popular is the last album “Povandeninės kronikos” (”Underwater Chronicles”), which put the band among the most popular performing groups in Lithuania. Released at the end of 2007, the album received “The Album of the Year” award from the Lithuanian alternative music awards ALT 2007. “Skylė” also received “The rock band of the year” award there. The music style of the band is hard to describe. It has had the influence of rock, post punk, neofolk as well as that of the Baltic ethnic motives. The band holds seven musicians at present. Apart from the traditional rock music instruments, the band employs several acoustic instruments – the flute and the accordion. In the past few years the band has actively performed in Lithuania and abroad. In 2008 the band appeared in two big international festivals - “Salt sound” (LT) and “Be2gether”(LT) - where they shared the stage with such bands as “Anywhale”, “ATB”, “Reamonn”, “Fools Garden”, “Fishbone”, “Groove Armada” and others. The group achievement during 2009: there were 28 concerts, 5 performances in TV concerts , 3 live shows on Lithuania TV and Radio. “Skylė” had pleasure to play in Ireland, Dublin in March 2009, too, and was very welcomed by listeners. The new CD/DVD were released: “Concert at Šv. Kotryna church” (video DVD) and “Sapnu Trofejai” (audio CD, double) collection of old groups songs, in addition with few totally new, or never released songs. Now the band is hardly working on new project which is planned to release in Oct, 2010.
