In line with increasing demand for air travel and the development plans of Estonian Air, the company expands its network in Vilnius airport by launching direct flights to Milan.
Starting from 18 December 2010, flights between Vilnius and Milan will be added to Estonian Air’s winter flight schedule in addition to the Vilnius-Amsterdam and Vilnius-Stockholm route. After this latest addition Estonian Air network from Vilnius Airport will grow to 4 destinations: Amsterdam, Stockholm, Tallinn and Milan.
During holiday season the flights on 18 and 25 December 2010 and 1 January 2011, will be operated as combined flights on the route Tallinn-Vilnius-Milan-Vilnius -Tallinn. The flight OV233 to Milan will departure from Vilnius at 9:10 and OV234 from Milan to Vilnius at 11:25 local time.
One-way fares from Vilnius, if purchased from www.estonian-air.com, start from 352 LTL (102 EUR) including all fees and taxes, subject to availability.
Free baggage allowance is 20 kg in Economy Class and 30 kg in Business Class and Flexible Economy Class on Estonian Air flights.
Snowboard and ski sets are not included in the free baggage allowance, but a fixed fee of 20 EUR (LTL69) will be charged per flight.
The following items are considered as one set: 1 pair of skis, 1 pair of ski boots and 1 pair of poles or 1 snowboard and 1 pair of boots.

Vilnius International Airport (VIA) serviced 1.092 million of passengers during the first three quarters of 2010, 9 percent more than during the same period a year ago.
During this year, the number of flights and the flow of cargo was increasing steadily.
During the first nine months of 2010, the number of flights grew by 19 percent in comparison to January–September 2009. The average number of flights at the airport was 75 per day.
The amount of cargo coming through the airport also increased by 25 percent to 3,773 tones.
Vilnius is the second most popular airport in Baltic States. Riga, the capital of Latvia, had 3.588 million passengers during the same period and Estonia’s capital Tallinn was left third with a little less passengers than Vilnius – 1.043 million.

Starting from 18 December 2010, Estonian Air will start flights between Vilnius and Milan. It is the third direct route opened by Estonian Air this year, the Baltic Business News reported.
“Our flights will start prior to the beginning of the ski season, which we hope will broaden the opportunities for Lithuanian customers to make their winter vacation plans,” said Rauno Parras, Estonian Air Vice President Commercial.
Flights to Milan Malpensa airport will be operated on Saturdays departing from Vilnius at 7:50 and Milan 10:10 local time.

Estonian Air announced that it plans to expand its base at Vilnius Airport. The company also intends to offer more flights from there in the future, adding to such destinations like Tallinn, Stockholm and Amsterdam. ‘Ideally we are planning to keep two or three aircraft in Vilnius in future. Vilnius is geographically advantageous for us,’ Rauno Parras, Estonian Air vice-president for commerce said in a press conference on 2 November.
“A demand in direct and connecting flights from Vilnius is obvious. People that are going by our planes to Amsterdam continue their trips to Chicago, New York, Boston, Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapolis from there. These are popular destinations,’ Andrus Aljas, Estonian Air president and CEO said during the same press conference.

As of April next year, Vilnius residents will have new destinations to fly to with the Polish low cost airline Wizz Air signing an agreement with Vilnius International Airport. The airline, which primarily is based in Poland, will fly an expected eight destinations from Vilnius.
The announcement by the airport is welcome news for the capital after Lithuania’s airline Star1 Airlines filed for bankruptcy this month. It is understood that negotiations with Ryanair for Vilnius have stalled.
The airline has moved a significant part of its flights to Kaunas, Lithuania’s second biggest city. Ryanair talks broke down because they deal they were seeking would have been unfair to other carriers that used the airport. Currently there are 17 routes from Vilnius airport.

The oil retail company Neste in Lithuania and Estonia has joined the loyalty programme BalticMiles. Neste in Latvia is already a partner of the loyalty programme. As of now the participants of BalticMiles programme will receive 1 point for each litre of fuel bought in more than 150 Neste A24 oil stations in all Baltic countries.

Latvian airline airBaltic carried overall 318,807 passengers in September 2010 (from Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn), representing 16% increase comparing with the same month in 2009, when airBaltic transported 275,139 passengers.
During the first nine months of the 2010, airBaltic transported a total of 2,519,324 passengers, or 21% more than during the same period in 2009, when the total number of passengers was 2,075,734. In September, airBaltic operated 5,296 flight, or 25% more than in September 2009 when airBaltic operated 4,236 flights.
Between January and the end of September, the airline provided 43,565 flights in all, representing 28% increase comparing with the same period in 2009. The airline’s load factor, which represents the number of passengers as a proportion of the number of available seats, in September 2010 was at a level of 73% - or 1% point more than in September 2009. During the first nine months of 2010 airline’s load factor was at a level of 69%, or the same level as in the same period in 2009.
The 15-minute flight punctuality indicator for airBaltic was at a level of 80% in September 2010. This means that 80 of every 100 airBaltic flights in September departed at the planned time or with a delay of no more than 15 minutes.
