Vilnius, July 27th, 2011. – The European Basketball Championship (“EuroBasket 2011“) is one of the best ways to show Lithuania to people from other countries and to encourage inbound tourism. For this reason “Eurobasket 2011“ has joined forces with the organization “Global Lithuanian Leaders“ which is the original creator of the campaign “Invite Your Friend to Lithuania.“  With this initiative Lithuanian entertainment, basketball and business representatives are encouraging Lithuanians living abroad to invite their friends to visit Lithuania.

„Our objective is to invite a record number of guests and in doing so, to largely encourage tourism in Lithuania.  This initiative is directed towards Lithuanians living abroad and at home, people who have already visited Lithuania, and those who are hearing about the country for the first time.  Importance lies in the fact that strong partners have joined the campaign to help motivate Lithuanians and foreigners to learn and take part in this initiative, “said the project‘s organizer and director of “Global Lithuanian Leaders“, Dalia Venslovaite.

“Every person who visits the country of Lithuania becomes our country‘s ambassador, someone who will share their experiences and memories with others. The European Basketball Championship that will take place in Lithuania from August 31 to September 19 2011 will make the country better known and encourage tourism.  We‘re hoping that this partnership with “Invite Your Friend to Lithuania“ will help draw in even more people to come to Lithuania“, said the director of the organizational committee for “Eurobasket 2011“, Mindaugas Spokas.

Those who would like to join the initiative are welcome to register at www.invite2lithuania.com or the social network “Facebook“in order to invite their friends and acquaintances to Lithuania.  The campaign‘s first stage is taking place from July 1st through October 1st, 2011. During this time span participants have the chance to win various prizes from movie tickets, up to free flight tickets to Lithuania. Today the official transportation company for “Eurobasket 2011“, airBaltic, has announced a giveaway of 200 tickets to the European Basketball Championship 2011.

Other supporters of the project include the. Jurgis Didziulis, famous Lithuanian basketball player and current NBA star, Linas Kleiza a famous Lithuanian musician, is also a supporter of the project “Invite Your Friend to Lithuania. “

“I think that all those who come to visit Lithuania during the European Basketball Championship will find that our small country has a lot of strength in its people.  Most likely, everyone can invite at least one friend living abroad and present them with the best that Lithuania has to offer; great basketball energy, many entertainment events, warm people and beautiful nature“, said the basketball star, Linas Kleiza.

According to Jurgis Didziulis, Lithuanians living abroad take a large part in inviting others to visit the country. The musician, who has lived in Columbia for many years, said that he often shares stories about Lithuania to his friends.  Many of his friends have already come, visited and fully enjoyed Lithuania.

“People who share their personal stories about Lithuania to their friends, have a far more powerful effect in inviting others to visit, than any informational tourism booklet.  As well, anyone can use different Lithuanian identification symbols that best convey the culture of Lithuania“, said Jurgis Didziulis.

Every week those who join the project have a chance to win free flights to Vilnius, Kaunas or Palanga with airBaltic.  As well, those who join have a chance to win tickets to; European Basketball Championship games, movie theater “Pasaka“, Dalia Ibelhauptaite’s theatre group “Bohemieciai“, Kristupo summer festival „Smile Balloons“, free rides on hot air balloons, “Lithuanian Scent“ candles, and t-shirts with Lithuanian symbols from “Trys Milijonai.“ Special discounts are also offered at hotel “Sekspyras“, “Baltic- American Clinique”, EXIT nightclub and the video “Unseen Lithuania.“

The informational partners are DELFI.LT and IQ The Economist. Other partners of this initiative include; Lithuanian Business Confederation   ICC Lithuania, Vilnius Tourism Informational Center and Convention Bureau UAB “MAMAreklama”.

eurobasket

Ticket sale to European Men’s Basketball Championship in Lithuania, for the technical reasons, will start later than originally planned. It was published earlier, that tickets to Eurobasket 2011 will go on sale on the 1st of March, but today it was announced that tickets will go on sale on the 17th of March, 10 am, local Lithuanian time (GMT + 2:00).
This change was made because of the fact more than half of the countries participating in “Eurobasket 2011″ basketball federations failed to provide the required number of tickets for their federations. Under international agreements, tournament organizer – Lithuanian Basketball Federation and “Eurobasket 2011″ Organizing Comitee – must provide a certain number of tickets, for the tournament participating countries basketball federations, which are .
For the same reasons, the ticket sale has been delayed several times in the 2007 (held in Spain) and 2009 (held in Poland) European Basketball Championships.
We would like to inform you the tickets to Eurobasket 2011 will cost from about 26 EUR up to ~100 EUR.

The official mascot of EuroBasket 2011, Amberis, made it’s first international appearance during the Draw ceremony.
