Lithuanian tourism opportunities were presented to the World Travel Market in the international tourism exhibition held November 10 - 14 days in London. Of the Tourism Department representatives attended the press conference, organized by the international media.
During the conference, a new trademark of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Millennium Program, the latest achievements in the tourism sector and opportunities. The emphasis on “Vilnius - European Capital of Culture 2009″ program and the events of the year. “Every year the world’s largest tourism business at WTM more than 200 countries present tourism resources and opportunities in the tourism business and the media.
Lithuania participate in the WTM exhibition in 1994, and the press conference of the international media prepared the second time. Yesterday, the Lithuanian tourism offers 36 journalists were interested in writing the economy, tourism and travel topics. This year’s WTM exhibition involving more than 5,500 representatives of the world tourism market.

An Informative Exhibition Marking 1000 Years of lithuanian in History
The Birth of Lithuania
“In the year 1009, St Bruno, also known as Boniface, archbishop and monk, during his eleventh year after having become a monk, was killed by pagans at the border of Rus’ and Lithuania on the 9th of March with 18 of his brethren, all of whom went to heaven.” – Quedlinburg Annals, St Servatius Monastery, Germany
This is the first time Lithuania’s name is known to have been mentioned in a well-known historical source. In 1009, Archbishop Bruno christened Lithuania’s Duke Netimeras and his followers with the hope of spreading Christianity. Shortly afterwards, however, Bruno was murdered. His mission ended in utter failure as Christianity lacked the strength to take root in Lithuania. In the early part of the 13th century, a duke by the name of Mindaugas took control of much of what was then Lithuania. In 1251, he was baptized and later in 1253, crowned Lithuania’s first and only king with the consensus of Pope Innocent IV. Mindaugas established himself among Europe’s royal families as a sovereign ruler. Lithuania became an equal member of medieval Europe’s community as a kingdom. When Mindaugas was murdered by his pagan enemies, Lithuania was left without a successor to the royal throne. However, Lithuania as a political entity, a state, remained.

Following on the lead of the spectacular buildings at New York and Bilbao, the new Guggenheim Museum in Vilnius, Lithuania promises to be an equally impressive figure on the city’s landscape. The design by Zara Hadid shows a futuristic floating space ship typs of structure that looks like it will take off at any moment. Adding to the futuristic appeal are the metallic finish and haphazard window layout.
Zara Hadid, who has the 2004 Pritzker Architecture Prize to her credit, promises that the interiors will be just as stunning. The Iraqi born designer was educated in London, and remains the only female recipient of the Prize.

CULTURE live is the title as well as the ambition of Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009.
The essence of the project is creation. Creation that is not abstract, not someone else‘s, not out of reach, but creation that is personalized, yours, mine, theirs. Just as if a group of people, fired up about the same idea, were to join hands and form a single current of energy, the Culture live logo symbolizes a molecule that has been made by a spark of creativity. The word culture splits into its basic elements, letters, which separate and join, forming new meanings among the various European languages.
The word live in music depicts a work which is performed in front of a live audience. What is live both refreshes and creates hope, it speaks not of distant horizons but of this instant. Culture live is a creative expanse which is revealed at this moment, a source of innovation, unexpected solutions in art, culture, education and business which are born here and now.
