On Wednesday morning at the „Capitals golf club“ have met many golf professionals. They are preparing for the first professional golf tournament in Lithuania – „SAS Masters Tour“ here, which starts already on Friday. This crowd of the professional golf players confirms the importance of this  tournament to the Lithuanian golf as a sport. This was highlighted by the official representatives of the tournament at the press-conference.

Rolandas Dovydaitis – the president of Lithuania Golf Federation -  says that this tournament will open the door to the professional golf contests in Lithuania, he also hopes that this and other similar events will help to develop golf tourism in Lithuania.

The director Stalbro Hakan of “SAS Masters Tour” tournament from Sweden highlighted that the requirements to the golf courses, where these tournaments are held, are very high. Guest emphasized that expects a particularly beautiful and passionate golf - a professional fight for the honor and a monetary prize, and assured that no doubt many people will come from Lithuania with good experience.

On Thursday, on the eve of Friday tournament, will be held a tournament of golf amateurs and professionals from Lithuania. The mixed teams - one professional and three amateurs - will compete for the prizes and improve their skills.

After the “warming-up” day is waiting a real professional contest which may determine the location at the rating table and ensure a solid part of 20 thousand euro monetary prize.

The first time in the official golf tournaments of Lithuania the ball reached Hole in one. Player Andrius Preišegalavičius realized the dream of every golfer.
Statistics is estimated that the probability of a amateur golfer to do it, is one of 12,500.

In the golf tournament “Danske Match Play” at the European Centre Golf Club, ball from the Tee reached the Hole in One.

In this year tournament competed 42 men and 7 women. In the tournament was played by  “Match Play” system when all players are equal, there is not paying attention if the golfer is professional or not. This tournament’s players fight one against one and each hole may be decisive.

So, if you want to prove that your ball also can reach the Hole in One come and play in Lithuanian golf courses!!!

We are happy to present you a new 18-hole golf course satisfying all international standards. This idea matured for a long time and only in 2007 a necessary property was formed in Kamorunai village near Leipalingis, 19 kilometres away from Druskininkai.
A name Wolf golf course to a this course was prompted by nature – a ditch Vilke (Wolf in english) is crossing the course. The project was designed by a Swedish architect and the building and construction work is already in progress supervised by an experienced American shaper. The course occupies 65 ha area, the game distance will be over 6 km, a part of course stretches into the forest.
It is the first Scottish-style (inland- links) golf course in Lithuania by the Swedish architect Johan Benestam. According to the project, the particular focus is put on nature – it is exclusively natural all over the course, thanks to a fabulous Dzukija landscape. In terms of a game, it is not going to be an easy course.
No matter that the course is still under construction, the Wolf golf club is open and memberships is already available, you can choose from personal, family and corporate membership. A number of members will be limited and will not exceed 100, in spite of that, Wolf golf course will be open to every golf player and general public.
We are planning to build a clubhouse with a restaurant, golf shop, changing rooms and rooms for storing golf inventory.
Since golf is step by step gaining popularity in Lithuania, a special attention will be paid to children. A golf school for children will be established. Professional golf coaches will provide the beginners with basic rules and teach them how to play, while the intermediate players will improve their skills.
The opening of Vilke golf course is planned at the end of summer in 2009.

Design Philosophy for the Golf Course

 Johan_1.jpg

The course should elicit anticipation and hopefulness of players of all skill levels; let it test your perceptual ability, judgment, decision-making, shot making, and emotional poise; let it not be difficult for the sake of being difficult; rather let it be interesting and engaging.

The design principles are to use the existing thresholds on the site as much as possible such as rivers, ditches, specimen trees, woodland areas, pine forest, marchlands areas, and undulations in the landscape. The aim is to build a course with many good exterior and interior views and to create beautiful landscape scenery.

The design provides generally a wide latitude for choice of wide fairways and generous play areas but there will be some holes with limited choice depending on topography, landform and strategy. As far as possible I will let the player see the result of a good play; let them see their shot carry over a hazard, their drives take a favourable way, or the approach shot  nestle close to the pin. The topography will be used to its fullest, meaning that the holes will twist and turn, flow over, around, through and into an array of landforms.

As far as possible the course will provide dynamic holes, which is likely to yield a broad spread of scores. There will be a wide range of short and long par four and par five holes as a major characteristic of the course. Key in achieving this is to establish a consistent rhythm and flow of the holes.
